I ordered the KTC 27M1 27 Inch Gaming Monitor with shields- for those reading reviews on the multi-monitor option page. As it is information I always struggle to confirm I will also note it does in fact have G-Sync Compatibility, 2xDP 1.4 ports, and it is HDR compatible (though the screen will not allow for a true HDR display).
The picture color, brightness, refresh rate, etc all live up to the specifications listed for the device, the construction while relatively cheap feeling does present any issues once set up, and the stand it comes with is relatively sturdy and stable on the desk. The VESA mounting option is also perfectly stable, though the product does NOT come with the M4-0.7 x 10mm screws needed for mounting so keep that in mind if you wish to use VESA mounting. Additionally the speakers the monitor comes with built in are cheap but more than acceptable for casual use.
Despite all this, the product is going to receive a low rating from me due to a few issues. Firstly, when receiving this product, the monitor box was placed within another, amazon branded box that was nearly 3 times it's size with no packing material. Due to this the monitor box inside was able to bounce around and may have contributed to the following issues; YMMV as to whether this will be an issue for you as well.
Issue 1: Upon setting up the first monitor I received, adjusting settings, and testing for a while, I noticed on occasion (roughly 10-30 min between) the monitor would flash to black across the entire screen for a moment. After EXTENSIVE testing to try to diagnose whether this was a settings or compatibility issue or an issue with the monitor and my PC, I concluded that the issue was with Display Port #1, as having it plugged into Display Port #2 did not present the issue with the same settings; meanwhile Display Port #1 using other cables or devices, any refresh rate/HDR/Adaptive-Sync/etc. settings continued to present the same issue. At this point I contacted amazon for a replacement, which I received promptly a few days later.
Issue 2: Upon receiving the replacement (arrived in the EXACT same oversized type of box...) and setting the new monitor up (current), it is exhibiting the EXACT same issue only in Display Port #1. Whether this is a QA issue or an inherent flaw with the way the product is designed is beyond my ability to determine, but regardless this means I'll never be able to have two devices plugged in using Display Port. I have NOT had time to check whether either HDMI port exhibits the same issue, though I would hope it does not. In addition to this issue, the monitor also has a red stuck (sometimes called dead) pixel very close to the center of the screen, so when in dark stuff, the red pixel tends to stand out and be noticeable. In other words- I sent in for a replacement due to an issue and received an item with an additional problem instead. I am also now unable to use amazon for another replacement, only a refund. I bought this monitor during cyber monday and cannot afford another monitor to replace it now due to the sales being over. (though perhaps contacting support directly could change this, I am afraid at this point of receiving an even more damaged/problematic monitor again so I'm essentially cutting my losses).
Issue 3: When attempting to contact KTC using the 'contact the seller' button I am taken to a 404 'page not found' error, and KTC's warranty states that 1-3 dead pixels are considered normal and acceptable so I'd have to pray they would simply believe me about the flicker problem as capturing it on video is nigh impossible due to the infrequency of it. I also have never bought a KTC product before or worked through a warranty process with them, but from reading online, it does not produce hope. This has furthered my choice to simply cut my losses, keep my current replacement, and hope it does not get worse or cause other problems over time.
TL;DR- The monitor overall has excellent picture and performance for it's price point, however there are options available with similar performance claims from other manufacturers for similar cost; and unless you wish to test your luck or are ready to accept one port not working correctly being likely, I would suggest choosing one of those other options instead if possible. I will give the final rating of 3/5 stars purely by merit that aside from the dead pixel as long as I stick to Display Port #2 it is an otherwise fantastic monitor.
