Solid well made grinder for less than 1/2 the cost of "name brand". I got this as my second grinder dedicated to cutting. My other grinder I'm using with flap wheels. Now I don't have to change wheels all the time. Uses same disk change tool, cutting wheels and even the threaded attach nut matches as my old Dewalt. This tool seems reliable, simple, cuts fine and has plenty of power. I did not go with Avid's bigger version because I did not need a heavier grinder. This one is smaller and lighter, plenty of power and easier to fit in tighter spots. The stock cutting disks that come with this unit are thicker than I would use, thicker disks mean more grinding to cut through something. So I will be using my Dewalt cutting disks that fit fine. Also for grinders I do not like battery power. Grinding burns through batteries and battery units are heavier and don't have same power/weight as plug in.

Have to admit I bought based on the price. Had to update my angle grinder and did not want to break the bank since I don't use that much. However, was very pleased at the performance of this grinder. Exceeded all my expectations and works great. Don't know how it would hold up to daily or heavy use but for me its perfect.

I needed an angle grinder for a couple small projects I needed to finish around the house. This tool did the trick for what I needed and it was very low cost.

The tool is a bit clumsy when I compare it to other angle grinders I have used in the past. The shield that fits around the cutting wheel has a very simplistic locking mechanism and I was nervous this metal shield would come loose while using the tool and become dangerous. This metal shield did not move while I used the tool, so it was fine. However, I still wore heavy gloves, arm protection, and a full face shield just in case this metal part came loose.

The off/on switch isn't very easy to depress. The metal shield around the tool doesn't allow for many shield positions and I found it a bit difficult to work with.

If you plan to use this tool frequently I recommend buying a higher quality tool at a higher price. If you are a weekend warrior with a very small angle grinding project, then this could be the low cost tool you need.

I'm giving 4 stars because it was ultimately the lowest cost angle grinder I could find and it helped me finish the two small jobs I needed. I just hope I don't need to use the tool again anytime soon.

I purchased a Avid Power 4 ½ inch angle grinder, Model: AAG590 through Amazon on January 19, 2020. I have used the tool a few times without any issue. Today I used the tool quite extensively as I was working on a project. I was doing various cutting and grinding tasks so I was switching between the grinding wheel and the cutting wheel. I was doing a lot of cutting and wore down the cutting wheel to the point where it was time to change it. The grinder became hot and smelled like it was burning. This is where the problem begins.

I tried many times to loosen the outer flange with the spanner wrench that came with the grinder. I could not get the outer flange to budge. In my attempts to loosen it I bent the spanner wrench to the point that it is useless. I also have a Bosch grinder so I tried to loosen the outer flange with the Bosch spanner wrench. I still could not get it to move, in fact it just elongated the holes in the outer flange that the spanner wrench is supposed to fit into.

So now I have a grinder that I cannot use because:

• I cannot remove the worn out cutting wheel

• The spanner wrench is bent and useless

• The outer flange holes are stripped/elongated

• The motor is possibly damaged

I was expecting to get reasonable service life out of this tool and 4 months of very limited use is unacceptable to me. There is a two year warranty on this tool and I want the grinder replaced. That would be the right thing to do.

I have been trying to contact Avid Power for the past week. I tried calling the phone number but all it does is ring. The call is never answered, but to make matters worse there is not an option to leave a message. I sent emails to [email protected] but so far no one has responded. A two year warranty is of no use when there is no customer service available to provide service. I was a little skeptical when I purchased this grinder but since there was a two year warranty I thought I would take a chance. Boy was that a mistake! Take my advice stay away from anything manufactured by Avid Power – you will only throw your money away.

Update: Customer Service contacted me and immediately shipped out a replacement grinder that I received in 2 days. I am hoping that this unit lasts longer than the last one.

This has a lot of power and makes short work of sharpening my blades. Great value

I used this tool with a diamond blade, purchased separately. to cut a section of cinder block and concrete to make room for some conduit. I removed the area cross hatched with chalk in the picture. And you can see before and after. It was not a long project and took less than 30 minutes so I can’t speak to its durability. Nevertheless the tool operates smoothly and cut through the concrete with ease. There are other reviews where the on off switch broke off. Mine did not break but it certainly feels fragile and vulnerable to breaking so I was careful with it. I also gave it four stars vs five for this reason but the rest of the tool feels solid and well made. Given I have only one other small project planned where I will use the tool, this has been a great purchase and I’m glad I didn’t spend additional money on a more expensive option to get the same results.
