A Truly Life-Changing Cookbook — Nourishing, Practical, and Full of Real Results
The Good Energy Cookbook by Betty J. Lawson is one of the few health-focused cookbooks that actually makes you feel the difference. Lawson’s introduction immediately hooked me — she talks about the fatigue, sugar crashes, and brain fog many of us ignore, and how discovering Dr. Casey Means’ work on metabolic health completely changed her approach to eating. Her explanation of blood sugar balance, insulin sensitivity, inflammation, and gut health is simple, encouraging, and genuinely empowering.
What makes this book stand out is how practical and delicious it is. Lawson teaches you how to build meals that stabilize energy, avoid common “drainers,” and use whole foods as true nourishment — not restriction. And the recipes? Truly amazing.
I’ve personally struggled with low energy and not knowing what to eat that would actually nourish me. This book helped me shift that. The Simple Kiwi & Berry Smoothie has become my pre-gym favorite, the Coconut Pancakes are now a family staple (especially helpful for my grandmother’s low morning blood sugar), and the Lemon Farro Bowl with Avocado is an easy, satisfying dinner we all love. Every recipe is clear, flavorful, and easy to follow.
Since cooking from this book, I feel less sluggish, more energized, and genuinely better from the inside out. It’s rare for a cookbook to blend science, simplicity, and taste this well.
A solid 5 stars, totally worth it and already a staple in my home.
