    Zap's a lot of bugs!!!

Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2026 · Color: BLACK · Verified Purchase

Zap's a lot of bugs. Seems well built, solid, stabile. Easy to set up. Versatile, hang or stand alone, indoor or outdoor. Brightness is good. There is a definite level of satisfaction every time you hear the crackle of an insect being zapped. Some during daylight, most in the evening or at night. It has definitely reduced our mosquito impact!!! It would be nice if the power cord was a little longer, but in many outdoor spaces, an extensions cord would be necessary regardless. Will be ordering a second one so we can have one indoor and one outdoor.

GOOTOP Electric Bug Zapper: Backyard Fly Killer and Moth Graveyard

Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2025 · Color: BLACK · Verified Purchase

    TLDR;

A highly effective, chemical-free solution for immediately eliminating nuisance flying insects like moths, flies, and gnats over a large area (up to 1/2 acre). It’s low-maintenance and built with safety in mind. While excellent for general flying pests, its effectiveness against biting mosquitoes is limited. A solid buy for managing patio pests.

I bought the GOOTOP Bug Zapper because my patio evenings were constantly ruined by dive-bombing moths and annoying houseflies, especially during our evening cookouts. I was also hoping to tackle the mosquito problem. Its promise of a 4200V electric grid, 1/2 acre coverage, and simple 3-prong plug installation convinced me. My initial thoughts were that any reduction in flying pests would be worth the cost. For larger, light-attracted insects, this device delivers a satisfying, instant result.

    Detailing the Experience and Analysis

This zapper is an absolute beast when it comes to flies, moths, and other nocturnal insects attracted to UV light. Almost immediately after plugging it in at dusk, the "zaps" started—and they were frequent. It provides incredible, visible results against a wide range of nuisance flyers, making our immediate patio area much more comfortable by eliminating the biggest, most irritating bugs. It’s built with durable ABS plastic and features an anti-shock cage, making it safe to use around my family. The hang-ring makes placement easy, though you will need an extension cord since the attached cord is relatively short.

The coverage area seems accurately large, as I placed it about 25 feet from our main seating area, and it successfully lured the pests away from us. Cleanup is simple: the dead insects fall into a removable tray, which you can brush clean. The bulb is also easily replaceable, ensuring long-term utility.

    A note on Mosquitoes:

While the product is marketed for mosquitoes, traditional bug zappers are generally less effective against them because mosquitoes are primarily attracted to carbon dioxide and body heat, not UV light. I noticed a much higher kill count of moths and beetles than actual biting mosquitoes. For a serious mosquito issue, this should be used as one component in a broader pest control strategy (like eliminating standing water or using fans), rather than a sole solution.

    Pros

High-Voltage Grid: The 4200V grid provides instant, reliable elimination of flying pests.

Wide Coverage: Effectively covers a large area up to 1/2 acre.

Chemical-Free: A safe, non-toxic, and odorless method of pest control.

Easy Maintenance: Features a removable tray and includes a brush for quick cleanup.

Durable and Safe: Built with an anti-shock outer cage and durable, weather-resistant materials.

    Cons

Limited Mosquito Effectiveness: Mostly kills light-attracted insects (moths, flies) and not the biting mosquitoes attracted to CO

    2

    .

Kills Beneficial Insects: Like all traditional zappers, it indiscriminately kills moths and beetles, some of which are beneficial.

Short Power Cord: Requires an extension cord for most outdoor placements.

    Verdict

The GOOTOP Bug Zapper Outdoor is a 5-star product, but only for its core function: killing light-attracted, nuisance flying insects. It creates a satisfyingly quiet, fly-free zone on the patio by drawing pests away from your gathering area. It’s built well, safe, and provides an immediate, noticeable reduction in general bug populations. For the price and ease of use, it is an excellent investment for anyone wanting to reclaim their outdoor space from moths and flies.

Excellent Bug Zapper – Highly Recommend!

I’m extremely satisfied with this bug zapper! It works amazingly well and catches so many flying insects. The amount of bugs it has killed is honestly impressive. Mosquitoes, flies, and all kinds of flying insects don’t stand a chance!

At this point, I’m convinced it would zap a pigeon if it could fit through the grid! 😂

Jokes aside, it does an excellent job, and I’m very happy with this purchase. If you’re tired of mosquitoes and other flying pests around your home, I highly recommend this product. Definitely worth it!

Perfect indoor-outdoor bug killer — small insects don't stand a chance

Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2026 · Color: BLACK · Verified Purchase

This thing works. Hung it on the back patio and the popping started within minutes. Gnats, mosquitoes, those tiny flies that show up around dusk — it clears them out fast. Nice part is it's just as good inside. Ran it in the garage and the basement and both went quiet after a couple nights. The 3-prong plug means you can put it anywhere you've got an outlet, and the blue light isn't harsh enough to bother anyone sitting nearby. Solid build too. The plastic housing feels sturdy, not cheap, and the cage keeps hands and curious pets away from the grid. One thing I'd change: getting into the core to clean it. After a busy week there's a real pile of debris in there, and the design doesn't open up as easily as I'd like. A wider access panel or a way to pop the top off would make cleanup a two-minute job instead of a fussy one. Not a dealbreaker, but it's the one place there's room to improve.

For the price, no complaints. Does exactly what it says.

    Magical

Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2026 · Color: BLACK · Verified Purchase

Love this little bug killer. I sit there and watch as bugs commit. It’s the best thing ever. I have wanted one of these ever since I was a kid. It’s so visually pleasing. There’s so many bug corpses the next day. I even have a wasps nest close to it and I found wasp inside of it at first. It’s magical. It’s bright. It attracts so many bugs. But I also don’t say that lightly, because now my porch is like the jungle and I’m finding, frogs, stick bugs, moths, and so much more. So beware of that added feature. It’s easy to use. Easy to clean. I usually just leave the bottom open now so the corpses can just fall out. Otherwise, it kinda attracts ants. It’s made well. It’s not heavy. Super light. Hopefully it last a while.

Absolute Insect Carnage—Cleared Out a Plant Infestation Overnight

Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2026 · Color: BLACK · Verified Purchase

If you are dealing with a sudden explosion of bugs and feel like you are losing the war, this bug zapper is the ultimate heavy artillery.

My wife recently brought home some new plants that unfortunately came packed with hidden bugs. We tried absolutely everything to get rid of them—sprays, traps, home remedies—but nothing seemed to work. Out of pure frustration, we set up this zapper, and it completely turned the tide.

Why This Thing is an Absolute Beast:

Non-Stop Action: The very first night we plugged it in, it sounded like a straight-up war zone outside with all the non-stop zapping going on. It was working overtime from the second the sun went down.

Unbelievable Kill Count: When I went out the following morning, I honestly felt like I needed to set up a miniature cemetery on the floor. The sheer volume of dead bugs piled up underneath it was wild. It completely decimated the infestation in a single night.

Massive Coverage & Power: The high-voltage grid on this unit doesn’t just stun insects; it completely vaporizes mosquitoes, gnats, flies, and whatever else was hiding out in those plants. The bright UV light draws them in from all over the yard like a magnet.

Rugged Outdoor Design: It’s built tough, weather-resistant, and features a smart outer grid to keep birds or stray fingers safe while letting the pests fly right through.

    The Bottom Line:

If you want something that stops bugs dead in their tracks and gives you instant, satisfying results, this is it. It saved our patio (and my wife's plants) in less than 24 hours. Highly, highly recommended!

Buy it! Buy 2 like me!! Love to have chemical/pesticide-free bug killer that WORKS. 😍

Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2024 · Color: JY-Black · Verified Purchase

We had a weird abundance of some very large, black moths that kept flying throughout our house shortly after moving in. We figure there must have been a nest or something of them because we would see 1-2 each day over a couple weeks. I searched for a “moth killer” and this was the result. It is outdoor rated, which is nice, and I plan on buying a third one of these things for right outside the sliding glass door to the backyard. I had purchased 1 of these and within a few days I knew I wanted another one. It WORKS.

This product is amazing…. Big or small bugs… I know it will work on even the largest of the flying insects because it worked fast on the moths flying throughout my entire home, upstairs and downstairs. Those moths were some of the largest moths I’ve ever seen in my life. With this product those black, giant months were totally eliminated quick with these bug zappers!!!

And it works for smaller bugs too. We live in Vegas where it’s 110+ everyday during the summer and this summer brought smaller flying bugs after the moth party was over. One day, my husband left out, with the lid removed, a little plastic container of strawberries blueberries blackberries and raspberries. The fruit was old and should’ve went into the trash, that’s why he didn’t put it in the fridge… but forgetting to put it into our trashcan with the lid closed was a big mistake. I woke up the next morning and went down to the kitchen to find a plethora of gnats dancing all around my kitchen, especially around that container of fruit. It was gross. I hate gnats because they could land on dog poop, then fly into your house and land on your fruit.. contaminating it with feces. So disgusting. I am an avid hater of all bugs of all kinds.. but gnats get my sweet spot from the memory of an old apartment I lived in which had gnats galore.

In the past, I would use shot glasses full of red wine with a splash of dish soap covered with plastic cling wrap that had toothpick holes poked into the plastic on top. That worked well, however I ended up throwing away every shot glass I used (full of gnats) because it grossed me out. Plus, if one gets knocked over? Its bad. Not only red wine but also dirty gnats contaminated into the red wine! Yuck!

This bug zapper allowed me to be free from the shot glasses carefully placed around the house to be out of reach of my toddler… this bug zapper killed all the many gnats (50+) in my kitchen that one awful morning and it also rid my home of large black moths nesting throughout my vents.

This bug zapper is safe, love that it is a chemical free option to deter pests. I had some sticky UV light traps but they are no match to this zapper.

The zap kinda is loud sometimes and might take a couple days to get used to, but it is a sweet sound. The sound of bugs being fried to the core. When I empty it out, I look at what is remaining in the zapper’s lower basin, and they don’t even look like gnats. They turn into like little flakes of grinded black pepper. This zapper FRIES them!!! I don’t know why but I LOVE knowing that they are so beyond dead it’s not even funny! 😆

Now that they’ve been in my home for a few months, standing strong, I rarely hear a zap unless the front door or back door was just opened from somebody walking in or out. At first it was zap zap zap all night and for the next few days… now I notice it’s rare to hear it zap more than once or twice per day (at least that’s all I hear when I’m home and awake). It doesn’t wake me from my sleep at all. It’s quiet and quick and few and far in between after the initial set up of the zapper.

My fav part is once every couple weeks or so I hear the zapper do a HUGE ZAaaaaaAAaAaaAaAP out of the blue. I wish I knew what it may be zapping, but if I were to check it would just be fried to pieces… whatever that major zap is every so often, I thank this bug zapper for making me totally unaware of whatever the hell it was that was flying throughout my home! Love this zapper BUY IT, I BOUGHT TWO CAUSE THEYRE GREAT AND WOULD PURCHASE AGAIN FOR MY BACKYARD. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

    Zapping all night

Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2026 · Color: BLACK · Verified Purchase

Zaps everything in sight. We've cut down on the number of bugs on our porches drastically with two of these. Only complaint is we can't hang them up yet and so we have them just sitting on the porch and after one night you have to empty the container at the bottom but even with that there are fried bug parts trapped underneath where it's sitting and then we get ants trying to eat those. I think once we can hang it that problem will be solved but either way it's wonderful. Only thing I would change is slightly bigger openings in the plastic grid protectors. I understand we dont want people of pets getting shocked but bigger bugs or Beatles will fly into it and smack the grid and then just land on the ground around it slightly dazed and confused but not zapped. Can easily be fixed though with a small pair of pliers snapping off a couple plastic pieces on each side and you're good to go. Would definitely recommend. Also it's not too terribly loud. You can definitely hear it but it's not so loud as to stop you from sleeping even if it's right outside your door. If it was inside that'd be a different story.
