I'm very pleased with these lights. Removing my old drop lluminous ceiling from the kitchen and installing these lights made all the difference. Connecting the wires was easy with the supplied connectors, and I love the ability to switch colors - finally determined I liked the 3000 K for my kitchen.
We had loose, blown in insulation in our attic, and these lights are certified to come into contact with insulation. If you have the same, be prepared for a mess as you cut the holes.
Installing them was very straight forward, and they fit perfectly into the 6" holes, staying snugly and securely in place.
I had no access to the area of the attic above my kitchen, but was able to run the required wiring by working through the holes in the ceiling.
My kitchen is 8' wide by 14' long with a wall on one side and a peninsula on the other. The lights were installed 1' out from the wall or peninsula cabinets, ending up right over the edge of the countertop with one more in the center at the entrance to the kitchen (More to fill a hole in the ceiling that had been poorly patched by a previous owner). A dimmer was mandatory because at full illumination, they proved more light than is needed.
Using the dimmere, there is no flickering, but make sure to use a dimmer that is designed for these lights. The instructions provide a list of dimmers that will work well.
My only suggestion/criticism is that the junction box is very thin metal, and accommodate two wires well, I had one box that needed three wires, and the box was small enough that I had to tape the cover closed. A key suggestion is to keep the stripped portion of the wires as short as possible while still giving you enough length to fit them all into the connectors. That minimizes the amount of space requireed.
Although the instructions don't mention using cable clamps to secure the romex wire, those are mandatory by code, and necessary both to keep the wires from pulling out as you manipulate the boxes and to keep them from rubbing on a sharp metal edge of a hole, which could be problematic if not dangerous. The little 3/8 plastic cable clamps are perfectly suited for use in these projects.
I have 5 left over and plan on putting them into an area of my family room that has no overhead lighting.
