Works perfectly, and is eerily familiar....

Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2026

Truth be told, I had already previously ordered a similar power supply for my MSI Vector 16 HX AI gaming laptop which is great and I've even already given it five stars. (Search "B0GXTY2QQ4" for that item.) Since this is a great price point and having an extra is useful for me, I decided to order this similar item to try out.

And, make no mistake, by "similar", I mean "IDENTICAL". The size, shape, weight, contour of the rounded corners, placement of the cable and socket for for the power cord are all completely the same. Even the label on the bottom is the same down to the fonts being used.

This is a Good Thing(TM). The original worked beautifully and stayed relatively cool, never gave me any problems, and earned its five-star rating. Because of this, I was confident that this one would perform the same. To no one's surprise, IT DID. In fact, if you want to go find and read my previous review, what I wrote there applies 100% here.

That said, I still did my due diligence with this adapter like I did with the first one and ran with this one as THE power supply my machine would use for a couple of weeks running 24x7 including all of my ordinary usage, gaming, AND through some torture testing using locally-running AI workloads at the highest performance settings. It's been working perfectly through all of that.

I can't speak to other laptops that I don't have, but my Vector 16 HX AI recognizes this supply with no issue, and I expect that any other high-end MSI laptop (I don't know of any others which require more than 400W and mine came with a 330W OEM supply) which uses the same reversible rectangular plug into the back of the laptop will also work just fine. (As far as I know, this connector is only used by MSI.)

One final note: I am very happy that this vendor calls the plug that goes into the laptop as "Rectangle Tip" in the pictures. The first one I ordered refers to the connector as a "USB Tip" which is completely incorrect and misleading, and I called them out on it. I'm not so full of myself to think that this vendor actually read my previous review and made changes to the Amazon listing here in response, but I will still give this vendor kudos for taking my advice--even if doing so was just an accident or a coincidence.

Works but runs hot, use caution for primary charger

Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2026

This 400W charger is designed as a third-party replacement for high-end MSI gaming laptops that require a substantial amount of power. The compatibility list is long and it covers several popular MSI models that use the rectangular barrel connector, so it is a viable option if your original charger is damaged or lost and you need a more affordable replacement.

On the positive side, it does charge the laptop and outputs at the advertised 20V 20A spec. The price point is noticeably lower than OEM replacements, which is the primary reason someone would consider this. The cable length is reasonable and the build looks solid from the outside.

However, there is a real concern worth flagging. The unit runs quite warm during use, noticeably warm to the touch compared to what you would expect from a quality power supply. For a charger powering expensive gaming hardware, excessive heat is not something to overlook lightly. High operating temperatures in power supplies can indicate efficiency issues and raise long-term reliability questions.

If you need a backup charger and you are not gaming under heavy load for long stretches, this might serve you in a pinch. But if you are doing extended gaming sessions that push your system to the limits and require all 400 watts consistently, I would pay the extra money for the OEM charger or a well-reviewed premium third-party option. The heat issue gives me enough pause that I cannot recommend this as a primary long-term solution for a machine you care about protecting.

Heavy Duty Power Supply For High End MSI Laptops With A Very Secure Fit

Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2026

This is a beefy piece of hardware. The plastic casing is thick and doesn't feel like it'll crack if it gets bumped around on the floor. It's a large brick but that's expected when you're pushing 400 watts to a high end gaming machine.

The power delivery is spot on. I've used it during some heavy gaming sessions and the laptop stays fully charged without any drops in performance. It handles the load easily and doesn't get dangerously hot. There is some warmth which is just basic physics for a power converter but it stays within a normal range. It's a relief that it doesn't throttle the power when things get intense.

The cables are a good length. Having about five feet on both sides gives me plenty of room to move the laptop without straining the wires. The rectangle tip fits into the port with a satisfying click and doesn't wiggle at all. A loose connection is the fastest way to kill a motherboard so the tight fit here is a big win.

It's a lot more convenient than hunting for a proprietary original part that costs a fortune. This does exactly the same job without the massive price tag. The build quality is high enough that I trust it plugged into my expensive rig. It's a straightforward replacement that just works.

Overall the quality is impressive for an aftermarket adapter. It provides the necessary juice to keep a Titan or Raider running at max settings without breaking a sweat. It's a great value for anyone who needs a spare or a replacement.

    Pros:

    Consistent 400W power delivery

    Secure rectangle connector fit

    Sturdy outer casing

    Reasonable cable length

    Cons:

It's a heavy brick to carry around

The Power Brick That Shows Up Like a Champ

Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2026

I plugged in this high wattage power block and right away I could tell it was built tough. The casing feels durable and looks great, and the whole thing has a solid weight that makes it feel dependable. I’m happy to have it because it keeps my big machine running without any drama.

From the moment I set it up, everything felt smooth. I connected the cable, powered it on, and it delivered steady juice with no flicker or weird behavior, which was an easy win for me. I love how it keeps up with heavy workloads and doesn’t choke when I push my system hard.

After using it for long sessions, I noticed how consistent it stays. Even when I’m gaming or running big projects, it holds the output steady and keeps my setup powered the way it should. The versatility is awesome since it works perfectly with my gear and fits right into my routine.

I also like how clean the connector feels when plugging in. It fits snugly, doesn’t wiggle, and makes the whole setup feel more secure. For the price, it’s good value for money considering how much power it delivers and how reliable it’s been for me.

Seeing the ins and outs of real use, I’m impressed. It works hard, feels tough, looks sharp, and keeps my system running strong every day. I would recommend it, and I’m happy to have it as part of my setup.

Functional and Inexpensive but Poor Build Quality and it Runs Hot

Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2026 · Verified Purchase

After using this for a few days, I decided to return it and go for another more pricey option that didn't get hot enough to use as a tiny stove.

On the plus side, it does hit the advertised output and it's inexpensive compared to other units available.

Excellent Alternative to the OEM Version

Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2026

I've got an MSI Raider 18 HX AI A2XW gaming laptop and needed a second power supply. The OEM version is grotesquely overpriced so this was a no-brainer at less than half the cost. I took this supply with me on vacation and used it heavily for the two weeks I was away. It performed flawlessly the entire time. It does get quite warm while in use, but this is no different the the OEM one. Construction quality is top notch and the rectangular plug fit snugly in the MSI's power jack. I give this adapter two thumbs up, however, do be aware that there is always a risk when using knock-off power supplies because many do not include safety features that can protect your laptop in the event of a failure.

A much cheaper spare than buying another MSI power brick

Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2026

I wanted a second charger for an MSI laptop without paying the ridiculous price MSI wants for another OEM brick, and this does the job.

The connector fits properly, the laptop recognizes it without any issues, and it supplies enough power for normal use and heavier loads. That's really the most important part with one of these. A cheap charger isn't much of a bargain if the laptop starts throttling or constantly complains about the power adapter.

The brick itself is large and heavy, but that's pretty much unavoidable when you're dealing with a 400W power supply. The cable and connector also feel solid enough that I don't feel like I'm handling some flimsy generic adapter every time I plug it in.

My only real hesitation is heat. This thing can get pretty warm under load, and while high-wattage laptop chargers aren't exactly known for running cold, I wouldn't bury it under a blanket or shove it somewhere with no airflow. I also tend to be a little more cautious with third-party power supplies in general when they're attached to an expensive laptop.

That said, as a second charger to leave at a desk, keep in a travel bag, or use so I don't have to constantly drag the OEM brick around, this makes a lot of sense. It works, provides the power the laptop needs, and costs a lot less than buying another MSI charger.
