VTech Smart WiFi Video Baby Monitor, 5.5" HD Display: Smart HD Plus

I bought this to monitor my Scottish Collies’ first litter of puppies. With one puppy being a premie and eventually having to be kept separate in order to thrive, the two cameras and dual viewing panel have been wonderful! It also monitors sound! And yes, the cries will wake you up!

And being able to view remotely on my phone allowed me to attend a short meeting off site, and still monitor my puppies’ safety. Of course, that was when I discovered the largest puppy attempting to play with the premie puppy by placing the little ones’ entire head in her mouth! So, perhaps not good for one’s blood pressure!

But it did provide me evidence of what was happening and I could then quickly correct things- premie got his own digs!

A great system! I highly recommend it!

As our dogs got older they began displaying how good they were at making bad choices like blindly walking off the bed or needing help getting up for potty time. This is our second VTech monitor so we can keep an eye on them and the most noticeable things were how long the battery lasts on the display module - 1.5 days when left on, and it didn't need to run on Wi-Fi. The camera connects to the display once it turns on and boots up fast after the initial sync procedure. While Dog Moms watching the boys on the display, I can check in thru the app to the same camera. This allows us to do chores, yard work, stuff around the house we couldnt do before because our older VTech camera was slow and the boys were slightly faster...

Good purchase and im sure its already paid for itself, saving the boys from unnecessary medical bills.

Unfortunately, as someone who was buying a surveillance camera for the first time, I was unaware that my WIFI or phone connection could be considered too fast to support this newer model camera. This camera is exactly what I needed, and I was disappointed that it was incompatible with my fiber internet and Verizon 5G service. The setup was easy with the app, and the experience would have been straightforward if it were compatible. Overall, I would still recommend this product as the quality seems good out of the box.

Ive had the original/previous version of this monitor for 3 years. Really liked it. Eventually the charging port on the monitor unit got damaged and stopped charging, so i had to buy a new set. I got this one. While the upgrades were neat, there are a lot of flaws with this set.

Con #1: noise detection lights on the monitor. These are not able to be disabled! So you'll be having constant flashing lights at you all night long if you have the monitor next to your head. I suppose you could cover it with tape but seriously?? Super inconvenient and I'm shocked it couldn't be disabled.

Con #2: kickstand in the back of the monitor is skinny, flush, and difficult to get open. It doesn't have multiple angles to set the right angle, only one, and i found it very unstable when sitting (the kickstand is also off to the side, not in the middle) and it was difficult to get open!

Con #3: sound/music quality on the camera. The music quality was awful. So gritty. I couldn't believe how bad it was. My baby listens to music every night and it was just so grainy and gritty and poor quality speakers on the camera.

I ended up returning it due to these factors. If maybe one of these had been a problem, i would have kept it, but with all three being a problem, there was no way i could justify keeping it.

We bought this to help with adult care of a parent. We set it up, and it worked beautifully for this. Unfortunately, she passed away before we were able to use it for what we installed it for. We returned to Amazon with no issues. However, it was perfect for that purpose. I would buy again if that situation arose. Great product. I kind of felt guilty returning it, because it was going to work so well.

We have two kids in two separate bedrooms and switched to this rather than having two parent units. The unit itself is huge and allows us to watch both kids at once and be able to see them. The range is pretty good, our bedrooms are all on different floors and we only have a couple dead spots on the opposite side of the house from one of the bedrooms. We haven't actually hooked it up to the wifi at all yet, I liked the idea of being able to but not having to have it connected at all. The cameras work well and the zoom capabilities are better than other cameras we've had. Set up is quick and they're easy to move around. A few things could be improved though, but not deal breakers. 1. If you're doing split screen you can only listen to one and have to manually switch, it would be great if it would switch when it detected noise (it does light up). It does have a mode to switch between each camera every so often, but I find that distracting. 2. The kickstand is not centered and it falls over easy because it's so big. & 3. The music/sounds that play on the cameras is picked up and super loud on the unit you can't hear anything else. Overall it's a great dual monitor that doesn't require WiFi.

The camera quality is great, sound quality is decent and I like that it can be a night light and play soothing sounds. However the whole reason I purchased this baby monitor was for its “ability” to connect to WiFi and see your baby from your phone. I followed the directions and troubleshooting and at one point I did get it to connect on the app for maybe three minutes. Other than that time I have not been able to use the app, only the screen that comes with the camera. You practically have to have your WiFi router sitting right next to the camera. Mind you we have wifi boosters throughout the house, including the room we keep this monitor in and that doesn’t help. So overall the baby monitor itself is decent, but as far as pulling up the app while you’re at home let alone out and about, forget about it it’s not happening.
