Light support & smoothing for 3x/4x pear/hourglass shapes

Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2024 · Size: 4X-Large | Color: Black · Verified Purchase

I wanted to post an initial review in case anyone like me has events this weekend and is considering buying this.

TL; Dr: these shaper shorts are great if you're looking for light compression/support and some smoothing.

As a tall plus size woman (5'11", 310lbs, 50-46-56, usually wear a 3x/4x), this item suits my needs to look a bit smoother under clingy dresses, prevent thigh chafing, and provide some abdominal compression for POTS symptoms relief. I have my highschool reunion this weekend and will be wearing a bodycon dress, so I wanted some shaper shorts that would smooth me out a bit without being uncomfortable. The mixed reviews on this item scared me a bit, but so far I'm glad I took a chance. I've been wearing them to work the past couple of days to test them out in case I needed to switch sizes or to another brand.

These shaper shorts are surprisingly comfortable for having a decent amount of light-modedate compression. While I'm tall, I'm also quite short-waisted with a long hip/pelvis, and carry most of my weight in my stomach, butt, and upper thighs. The waistband comes all the way up to my bra line, but so far has not rolled down thanks to the fabric quality and small stays strategically placed. The legs are also a great length to not roll on my thick thighs - I'm easily able to adjust them higher or lower depending on the length of my skirt. The fabric is fairly breathable and soft, doesn't irritate my sensitive skin. Other than the very top of the waistband, I can't feel them on after a bit.

I'm glad I went with the 4x instead of the 3x. My measurements were on the low end of the 4x, and I decided to opt for comfort over stronger compression. The shorts are quite stretchy, and I imagine someone several inches bigger than me could comfortably wear them. The shorts washed fine in a laundry bag on delicate cycle and didn't shrink too much. I can't speak to their long-term durability and performance, but I will update this review after my events with pictures and final thoughts.

Overall, I definitely can recommend these to others looking for similar qualities in shaper shorts. I hope this review helps other tall plus size women as I know how hard it is to find comfortable, flattering clothing for us.

Modest compression and decent comfort for all day

Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2026 · Size: 3X-Large | Color: Nude · Verified Purchase

Comfortable and decently easy to get on but it doesn’t have lots of compression. I have lots of loose skin across my tummy area and even though it doesn’t sway or jiggle much with this, it still might be a bit more compressed so all the lumps and waves don’t show as much. Of course if you just want modest compression this is perfect for you. If you’ve got lots of stuff that wiggles, jiggles, or waves, perhaps go with something a bit more heavy. It’s great if you have lumps you don’t want squeezed so much you get nauseous or if you want something that you can wear all day! It’s also ok to wear in summer if you don’t have boiling temperatures and high humidity. Or if you’re inside most of the time. I live in a very hot and very humid area and it’s kind of hot…but then anything not linen or very light cotton is miserable. I can wear this if I streak to the car and then office quickly. I tried to wear it to an early church service outside and kind of melted but if there was a breeze even I would have been fine! It covers all you’d need if you’re apple or pear shaped. I’m really tall and it covered high waist to below mid thigh. Overall I’d recommend it to most folks looking for modest compression and who may not be quite as lumpy as I am. It’s definitely going to be part of my wardrobe! (But there are a few dresses I’m going to have to go to Helga the Corset maker for, the ones with industrial strength spandex and steel boing to keep the wobbly, wavy bits from showing!)

    Holds EVERYTHING IN..

Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2026 · Size: Medium-Large | Color: Black · Verified Purchase

I bought this for post-op compression and wore it once for a couple hours, for that I do not recommend it, as there are (4) 1” pieces of flex-boning at the very top to keep the garment from rolling down, just beneath the elastic that d/t my surgery made it impossible to wear. So why the 4 stars? Well, because when worn as intended, this is superior to every other shapewear garment I have ever tried. Its composition of fabrics makes on/off glide over skin easily without having to break a sweat. I suggest rolling the top, skid up over bum/hips and adjust for comfort at thighs. It holds everything in, feels comfortable. No split in crotch for bathroom which, given high waist might make gowns/garment difficult to get on/off for some. That’s the only reason for -1 star and I’d still chose this over any other body shaper. Can’t tell you how many times my nails have poked through the other brands. That’s not happening w/this one.

Might be a tad warm for some.

Took a chance and bought this to wear with a long skirt and top to a recent wedding. Can I tell you this was the MOST comfortable thing I have ever worn!! I was skeptical trying it on, but it really did the job...sucked in what needed to be sucked in and stayed put too. Glad I bought it and will be wearing it to another upcoming wedding.

    Holes after two wears

Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2026 · Size: X-Large-XX-Large | Color: Nude · Verified Purchase

I do love this product, but I’ve worn it twice now to work (im a school counselor) and there are already holes in it. Both times I wore the shapewear with linen pants.

I don’t hate it, but just wish the quality was better.

I purchased this because my surgeon recommended it. I must say I could not be more pleased with the results.

I had a panniculectomy and she had me purchase this before my surgery. rating the amount of struggle to put it on.

From 1 to 5 with 5 being the hardest. I give it a 3. For support to my mid section with 1 being the worst support. I give this product a 7 ( 2 more than a 5). It firmly supported me, but is so darn comfortable. MOST IMPORTANT!!!!!!!

there is no rising. Great JOB

    works well, comfortable, stays put

Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2026 · Size: Medium-Large | Color: Black · Verified Purchase

I haven’t really worn shapewear before and bought this to wear under a very tight dress. It really smooths out my belly and hips and is so comfortable and stays in place. As someone who’s pretty new to these products, I am very pleased. It doesn’t feel too restrictive but it definitely makes a difference. Again, I’ve had no issue with it falling down or riding up — and I usually struggle with that with other clothing.

    Holy Misery - Death Shapers!

Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2021 · Size: 4X-Large | Color: Black · Verified Purchase

Dear lord have mercy these are not for short folk. I thought surely my ribs would crack or I'd pass out from oxygen deprivation. Now before you say I must have purchased the wrong size, I purchased one of these in my size, another one size up because I don't trust anything I can't try on and my success at online shopping has been very hit or miss. The result was the same in either pair, so this is not about sizing.

The first thing to know I am 5'4 and purchased these for a little shaping in the hips and stomach. I did not know I was also purchasing a torture device! As I rolled that first pair up over my thighs I thought, hmm firm, and up over the belly, really firm. I kept rolling, and rolling, and rolling. Where do these things end! Now I'm getting real close to some delicates that sit well enough above my stomach that they should not be impacted, special things I don't want flattened out. Wrong!

So now I have two options I can cover my upper delicates and flatten those out too, hello 5'4 extra thick board! Or I can stop unrolling these things, fold them down a bit, because an extra bulky ridge anywhere is exactly what I was looking for......I chose to fold them down a bit because flat wide board wasn't the look I was going for. Let me tell you, I chose wrong. The fabric these are made from is strong and the waistband on these are very, very strong. Now that's three very strongs right there all rolled into one, directly under my ta-ta's, coiled around my body like a starved boa constrictor that just wanted me to die! Added to that, there's still all that really strong fabric I assume was intended to cover the stomach of a giantess crushing my ribcage.....I...could...not...breathe....world...spinning....lights dimming.....HEEEELP!

Now before you say you should never fold them down; you are right and I know this. But these things are never ending. It's not trying to squeeze yourself into a pair of hosiery that's just too small, where you pull and stretch and suck it in the make them stretch up to your waist. Nooo, no no no, these things are not those things, these things are just designed for someone at least 7 ft tall with a stomach waist area the length of my entire upper body. Trust me I considered user error, rolled them off and back on again and just stopped that waistband right at my waist which was about as effective as well I don't even know because it was not effective at all, but it was bulky. Moving along to the next pair, I have no idea what I was thinking, because this pair was no better. I did everything in my power to not pull or stretch them in any way. Just thrust one chubby thigh in after the other and then pretended I was a weeble wobble. A little shake and shimmy, A wiggle, a weeble and a wobble and I'm in! I gently eased that fabric covered super strength boa constrictor waist into place just above my natural waist and definitely below my ladies on high. Now I'm still breathing but they felt very heavy in the stomach area, almost as if there was just too much fabric piled on my stomach and I could have pulled them much, much further up. I also immediately noticed my stomach was definitely being "shaped". It was a very weird feeling. I felt like I was sucking in my stomach but also had a pile of concrete blocks pushing my stomach further in well past any average "sucking in" . Suddenly I was standing very straight, like a soldier at attention. I could not relax my stance, I tried. As the web of murder continued to exert all the forces of the universe on my stomach, all the body mass had to go somewhere, and it went up! I am fairly certain one of my kidneys just popped right on up under my ribs. What was that pain pressing against my spine? Well, that was the rest of my internal organs all pressing back and up, against my spinal column and under my ribs. All this pressure and upward movement of body mass and organs was making it difficult to breathe; short breaths, short breaths......I couldn't stand at attention any longer, so as my organs continued to shift, I slowly sat down. Have you ever tried to sit while part of your body is wrapped in a body cast? Me neither until right then.

Now I am sitting there, straight as a board, my stomach continuing to cave in, my refugee organs pressing further and further into the space previously occupied by my lungs making breathing more difficult by the second. This was not working out, I had to get out of this torture device, I needed to breathe! Seriously, I needed oxygen....to live. And so, with every intention of rolling the death shapers off my body, I stood up and that is all I remember. I woke up on the floor with my husband kneeling over me, scissors in hand, a fresh red welt clearly visible. Apparently, he was unable to work his stubby fingers under the boa constrictor waistband and did the next best thing; he cut that medieval death shaper from the thigh up. When the scissors finally chewed through the waistband, that angry snake band decided it was not going down without a fight, snapped back and gave the poor man a welt.

Ladies, if you’re tall, into BDMS or torture, you might like these. If you want to test your pain tolerance or endurance, these are for you. If like me, you prefer the security of knowing all your internal organs are in their designated spaces, move along to the next product. If you are short, move along. Lastly if breathing is not relevant to you have at these, for the rest of you, if you like breathing as much as I do, just keep scrolling, these are not for you or me.
